Born in 1979, consultant for more than 20 years, i am looking for long terms projects/perspectives. Even if i can read/write codes in more than 10 programming languages, i do not consider myself a programmer. I am an Administrator/Integrator/Operator, I love computing(data processing) from microarchitecture design to complex heterogeneous environment with a strong tendency to test or at least see at work everything i find interesting. I've been actively using my previously unused LinkedIn profile since 2019/02/20. As i can do so much more than what i can put on LinkedIn in a short time, i am looking at novel ways towards full exploitation/optimization of this profile page.I can learn anything really fast, i read code the same way as i read manuals and how-to. When all the lights blinks correctly, i am happy for a minute, then go on with the next step... I Love Clusters, human/machine learning/teaching, science & any historical data(hobby). For those reasons i was an early donator of computer processing power*time on BOINC(x86) and Folding@Home(3 years almost full time on Cell(microprocessor)).I've been faithfully deploying Apache/BIND/Sendmail on Linux and reading "NIX" stuff since Debian 2.0(1998). I still operate my own infrastructure in the cloud with customized internet services for my clients and my personal perpetual research needs (VPN, Web, DB, MTA, etc) since 2011. Previously, from 2001-2006, i was hosting on fully owned baremetal hardware but stopped my commercial hosting operation(not my research: OS & Kernels, Wireless Communications, Virtualization) while working for Sirenis Hotels and Videotron(2006 to 2011 period).I am a dedicated career consultant, whatever the needs, i will bring end to end solutions in a timely manner. My long term objective is still to go back to school, when timing will allow it, so i could participate in academic research and maybe teach. Please Contact me for any needs/questions

It ConsultantYanick Yvinec Dec 1995 - PresentAnything remotely related to Data, Math, Science or Technology. What i like the most of consultation is the discovery of new dimension in computing based on how people use it. Most of the time consultation bring up new research subjects which could not be justified without being required. Then follow the fixing/testing part(the actual puzzle) where all part gets woven together, tested and validated.providing to small businesses, customized end-to-end services, such as: Technical Support. Disaster Recovery. Networking and Connectivity. Fully managed Apache/Nginx hosting Services with Linux in the clouds. Fully managed DNS, WAF with hardened Cloudflare firewall and reverse proxy. Backlinks and Organic SEO. Cloud Infrastructure migration/hybridization/optimisation. Apache Guacamole Implementation and Support Virtualized Infrastructure migration/hybridization/optimisation. Research & Development. Data analysis. Data Lifecycle and backup management. Integration of new hardwares/softwares. IPFS Pinning/Hosting/Proxy. Cloud ArchitectYanick Yvinec Sep 2011 - PresentWith the high prices related to maintaining, operating and owning baremetal hardware, Internet Virtualized Infrastructure become more attractive every day. Specially among developers.Even if i've been faithful and satisfied with DigitalOcean cloud platform since july 2015, I continue to test new and specific features offered on Azure, AWS and many others. I even tested IBM Cloud(s390x) for a month(twice), even if i had abandoned all my PowerPC/Cell R&D few month before, by sending my hardware to be recycled. It was nice to benchmark Linux(s390x) efficiently, in a VPS from IBM.Now the Internet continue to evolve beyond computer architecture. The Network is the Netputer.Because if the infrastructure can be virtualized within the cloud, then it should be, to get the economy of scale of the big data-centers.Let's not forget, i love CloudFlare!

ResearcherYanick Yvinec Jan 2001 - PresentEven before my first startup(2001-01-25), i had made research in Science, Operating Systems and Micro Architectures.I follow High Throughput Computing paradigm evolution with the same interest as system-on-chip(SoC) design targeting embedded computing. On the application/service level, research on Linux/NIX and standard internet services(DNS/WEB/MAIL) are constant since 1998.From 2001 to 2006 most research were concentrated on the balancing/scaling/clustering capabilities/features of various Operating Systems for automated deployment. Tested operating systems kernels using different payload were Linux(mosix)/QNX/Plan9/Inferno/OpenSolaris within that time frame.Protocol specification are like newspaper, i really enjoy reading them.Since 2014 i do a lot of R&D around Blockchain, DLT and other special purpose clusters.Preemptive security, honeypots, close monitoring & vulnerability assessment also fall into that category of work since data collected are then used for optimizing firewall rules and public gateway security. Projects will be added in the proper section below

System AdministratorYanick Yvinec Jan 2001 - PresentLinux System AdministrationStarting in January 2001, when i've launched my first server for commercial production purposes, starting with Linux, Apache(PHP), MySQL, Bind and Sendmail as base stack foundation with a custom kernel and Linux Mandrake. Since then i've Administered/Deployed/Maintained/Upgraded Linux host of all flavor, since it doesn't mater at all.Windows Server AdministrationStarting 24/7 for Sirenis Hotels in 2006, it was my first Windows Server contract, Initially they had two Windows 2000/2003 Servers and a full fleet of Windows 2000/XP workstations. At first i recycled an obsolete host as a Linux Sendmail server. Having a local Sendmail was very appreciated on a slow internet link, it was then virtualized too on the primary server.Emulation/VirtualizationBeing a big part of Operating System R&D and Server administration, saving tons of time and money only with more RAM. Starting around 2005 with QEMU, VMware's and other competing products, virtual machines have been part of most of my past deployment. In production it facilitate administration/optimization of baremetal hardware and for development it allow isolation(testing/analyzing), easy snapshot/recovery and access to full range of microarchitecture for targeted embedded development testing and monitoring. I also use Docker for lightweight development/production isolation for a while now, on a few services, since it is very cloud/vps friendly. Load-Balancing, Clusters and Scaling(up vs out)Scaling solution are a funny aspect of administration since it has to be anticipated before the first deployment or it clearly shows that someone skipped his homework. While some applications still prefer scaling up on bigger host most of them now allow easy scale-out. Facing the high TCO of those physical infrastructure, cloud based infrastructure migration or hybridization is going faster every day since most companies are VERY LATE and already spending too much on electricity & maintenance.

Software TesterYanick Yvinec Apr 1995 - PresentOfficially starting as one of the rare families Alpha/Beta Testing Microsoft Chicago(Win95), it went downhill from there with the release of NT4.0 and the reading/testing of the 4 MCSE books bought at Costco. Bits of this retro knowledge are still useful today. In 1998, while maintaining related MCSE deployed services and testing audio/video web streaming techniques/applications using different encoding on 10Mb Ethernet with NT4.0 , limitation of NT4.0 made me test Apache/Sendmail on Debian 2.0 as an Exchange/IIS future replacement. It was a true Multi-user environment and fully portable to all competing Micro-architecture of the time(big deal back then). I have Been Advocating/Defending/Testing/Deploying Linux on many architecture since that moment. I will attach more details in the project section on LinkedIn since any clients requests for theses services has generated tons of R&D and Proof of Concepts.

Php DeveloperYanick Yvinec Jun 2000 - PresentDevelopment/Hosting/Maintenance of multiple Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP sites over the years.PHP being my favorite scripting since i have been introduced to it in 1999, replacing Perl for my primary usages at that time(web forms), i still use/support it in console or on Apache/Nginx all the time.Starting on 2001-01-18, for Technocool Networks, i have built a server side modular framework from scratch for a Virtual Shopping Mall(SSL and payment processing sharing) with Client's Brand Custom Web Store, Internet Café Management/Accounting and so many more modules.I still prefer it for most quick DB integration, Web back-end and shell scripting usages for multiple obvious reasons, but it really depends on the implementation target since most newer languages are more efficient in most decentralized web scenarios. I believe in Programming Language Natural Selection for anything beyond prototyping. While PHP is often the best choice in some task(centralized API)and has a big repository of diversified codes for quick development, it's also easy to overextend the use of it, falling into something more like cooking with too many not always fresh ingredients when trying to do everything with it. No one like to pay, for trying to reinvent the wheel, instead of proper research.
