Corporate position responsible for marketing Grainger's China operating capabilities to U.S. headquartered customers both directly and through the U.S.-based sales force. Duties include establishing and refining target market, co-calling, negotiating contracts and monitoring the activity of U.S. companies utilizing Grainger in China with a goal of assuring that expectations are met and that lines of communication remain open; working closely with the Corporate Communications Department in the development of internal and external communications regarding the Company's activities in China and acting as the content owner for China-related information on the Grainger Internet and intranet sites. Reinforced a major strategic initiative to establish Grainger as a premiere brand in the global MRO distribution sector by establishing successful relationships with the China-based subsidiaries of companies including GE, Caterpillar, Emerson, Dow Corning and Timken, etc.Co-hosted the inaugural "Global Brand Summit", a consortium of middle market and large corporations, consulting firms and universities from U.S. and China that fosters research and knowledge dissemination concerning global brand development that was jointly sponsored by Northwestern University and Beijing University.

Relocated to Shanghai to work with the GM to establish the Company's de novo distribution operations in the country with responsibilities including developing the strategic plan; obtaining the necessary licenses; developing the organizational structure; recruiting the local team and developing the local language brand, marketing materials and sales collaterals, including a Chinese language catalog. Also, served as the Company's Senior Communications Executive in China, including developing and maintaining relationships with print and electronic media, customers, suppliers and government organizations.Hired, trained and built strong Sales. Marketing, Catalog teams in Chinaidentifying the optimum location for a distribution center; developing target markets and sales and marketing materials and obtaining all necessary government approvals.Established a new channel of distribution in the Chinese market by publishing the first major Chinese language catalog circulated in the country.Successfully built Grainger brand through direct marketing and advertising. Led the pricing team that was successful in establishing a price point strategy that positioned the Company as a high quality/reasonably priced competitor, consistent with the Company's positioning in the U.S. and other foreign markets.Obtained one of the first FICE (Foreign Investment Commercial Entity) licenses issued by the Chinese Government, within one year of the initial application by developing a close relationship with MOFCOM (Foreign Trade Ministry) Officials.Orchestrated both the Grand Opening and the One-Year Anniversary celebrations with 700+/1000+ guest events, financed 100% by suppliers.

Recruited to conduct a thorough study to determine the feasibility of establishing a full service Grainger presence in China. Responsibilities included working with external consultants to conduct customer, competitor and regulatory research; working with headquarters departments including operations, marketing, supply chain, finance, sales, logistics, legal and customer service to develop a business plan and traveling to China on a monthly basis to gather and verify facts and to develop relationships with the appropriate government officials, agencies, customers and suppliers.

Worked closely with Line-of-Business Executives in the development of business plans to increase both sourcing from and sales to Chinese entities and in the development of the associated channels of distribution. Responsibilities included identifying growth opportunities and emerging threats by conducting market, competitor and industry research on an ongoing basis.

Responsible for developing and managing channels of distribution throughout Asia and the Pacific,grew sales in China alone from $50K to $4M in three years. Responsibilities included developing sales strategies; conducting dealer training and managing distributors, end users and local government relationships with a goal of building strong brand recognition in key markets.
