In my role as an Instructor with the Schomburg Center's Junior Scholars Program (JSP), I facilitate culturally and historically responsive lessons for approximately 100 5th-12th grade students on a weekly basis. I actively participate in program team meetings to discuss student outcomes, collaborative planning on field trips and the annual Youth Summit, and professional development opportunities. Through this, the instructional team and I enhance and showcase youth ingenuity and passion for social issues via Special Projects. I served as the Music Special Project leader where I mentored students towards producing the first-ever music projects, live orchestra performance and music video in the JSP's 20-plus year history.

My primary responsibility was implementing the short- and long-term strategic technology-related policies and plans for our eLearning, Assessment, Legal and other teams in our organization. As the role supported the work of school administrators and leaders across 24 underserved school districts nationwide, I built and distributed assessment tools and content for the professional development track for participants. Included in this was managing data collection tools and analyzing data of user satisfaction of technology-based platforms and coaching effectiveness across multiple audiences of participants and staff, to which I maintained an overall average of 92% over my three years through self-developed coaching sessions and support plans for staff and participant use of the technical platforms.In alignment to the organization's mission of increasing racial equity, I also served as the Technology Team Ambassador on the New Leaders' Equity Task Force as well as successfully led an equity-focused affinity group and professional development workshop to discuss current status and future dream the diversity of responsibility and leadership within the Technology Team.

I served as co-teacher for 1st and 3rd grade classes, leading Common Core-aligned instruction in subjects Reading, Writing and Science. Here I also provided classroom coverage for grades K-4 across all subject areas including Physical Education. That summer, I later continued to serve as a literacy coach and instructor for Springboard Collaborative summer intensive learning program. Among staff and parent volunteers, I supported schoolwide initiatives to build culturally restorative and reflective teaching practices and pedagogy which included book clubs on social justice-oriented literature and participating in discussion sessions on safe, inclusive spaces.

As a Program Manager in The Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality, one of the projects I first worked on was managing excessed teachers in the Absent Teacher Reserve (ATR) pool where I reviewed teacher portfolios and made policy recommendations under the guidance of a team of decorated, retired school principals and superintendents. Here I produced a residency program to expedite permanent classroom placements for excessed teachers by warehousing extracurricular skills teachers possessed that schools needed and by implementing a data management system to collect and assess teacher professionalism and performance in rotating school assignments.I then transitioned to supporting the collective recruitment efforts and professional development opportunities provided by the NYC Men Teach (NYCMT) - a City policy initiative to increase the number of public school teachers who identify as men of color to address the shortage in diversity. In addition to hosting and speaking at events including college fairs, national education conferences and music festivals, I rebranded and launched the New York City chapter of the national Educators Rising program to cultivate high school students to become teachers. Leaning on previous administrative and youth mentoring experience, I initiated a citywide pilot with strategic partnerships in CUNY, school districts in Brooklyn and the Bronx and community based organizations to provide college and career readiness opportunities for “Educators Rising” program participants. Through the outstanding work we put into this policy implementation, the team and I were able to exceed our three-year benchmark and recruit over 1,000 applicants within the first year.

In my initial consulting role with the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality, I successfully onboarded over 90 nominees for the 2016 Subsidized Bilingual Extension Program, increasing candidate pool by 30% in 2015. This was the result of my being tasked with leading the Subsidized Bilingual Extension Program (SBEP) application process. Under the leadership of the Senior Manager of Strategic Operations and Programs, I collaborated with CUNY university partners on SBEP candidate university enrollment process and improvement of program quality. I was also able to develop and implement a social media strategy across three major platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) to broaden online presence that attracted a larger applicant pool for New York City Teaching Collaborative (NYCTC) program. Lastly in this role, I oversaw with university invoice reconciliation process to accurately allocate program funding.

As the Supervising School Aide, I worked closely with the Principal and other members of Beginning with Children Charter School (BwCCS) school leadership in two main capacities:1) Manage and organize school data and systems in accordance with local, state and federal policies and regulations2) Support student-related programs and activities and organize the student assessment strategy In the first, I designed, administered and conducted reporting of Math and ELA-based assessment exams and timelines in adherence to Common Core learning standards and preparation for New York State exams for students in grades K-5th. To further support and monitor curriculum impact and student learning, I used platforms such as Pearson® PowerSchool, SchoolNet, and iReady. I also created and distributed the Principal’s Weekly publication to all school staff which communicated updates such as professional development opportunities, extracurricular events and curriculum-related updates. Lastly in this first category, I managed the BwCCS website and online communications to parents and other members of school community.In the second capacity, I oversaw and engaged over 250 students in physical fitness and performing arts activities during recess periods and out of school time on a daily basis. I supported partnerships with Directors of OST programs through frequent one-on-one check-in meetings. I also worked with leadership, partners and parents to coordinate events like the 10th Annual Family Field Day event serving over 300 families and field trips to sites including New York University, SONY Wonder Lab and the New York Stock Exchange.The highlight of my time at BwCCS, though, was directing the award-winning The Genesis Project, a journalism-based afterschool program for 26 3rd-5th grade students to increase literacy and public speaking skills.

In this role, I developed curriculum and provided academic support to 20 middle school students in the subjects areas of math and English Language Arts. I also communicated student progress with families and school staff to foster positive climate and coordinated four academic and arts-based events throughout school year with teaching artists to increase student literacy. Also, I documented records of all academic tutoring sessions to monitor student progress which was periodically reported to city and state agencies and grant funding sources.A highlight among many is creating and organizing inaugural “The Number Games” mathematics competition which was developed in noticing our students' need for growth in math knowledge and building off their love of The Hunger Games books. The competition is still being held at the site.

I visited multiple work sites on a weekly basis to ensure that the youth employees were engaged in appropriate work and being properly supervised. Lastly, I co-organized and served as Community Relations Representative for Take the Challenge community service initiative.

As a Team Leader, I primarily managed daily activities of service team of seven Corps Members in Long Island City, New York through supporting established relationships with teachers, staff members, community members, and local government figures. I created and facilitated workshops and trainings for Corps Members, corporate sponsors and school staff themed around fundraising, lesson planning and time management. To support City Year's efforts of data analysis and impact measurement, I collected data and participated in maintenance of Research and Systematic Learning system.I recruited and led over 200 volunteers through large-scale community service projects and coordinated seven parent engagement events serving over 25 families. As a Mid-Year Corps Member at City Year New York, I served as a Teaching Assistant for a 4th grade class, created and facilitated lesson plans for over 100 elementary school participants of the Starfish afterschool and literacy assistance program for a public school in Bed-Study, Brooklyn. As well, my community service experience grew as I engaged and led over 150 volunteers through physical service projects in the community. I also leaned on my journalism experience from SUNY New Paltz to serve as Editor-in-Chief of 2007-2008 City Year New York Yearbook, which was the first yearbook the New York Corps had in its 10-year history. Through the numerous partnerships and support we received from various companies, I was also allowed the opportunity to participate in a pilot for ThinkMTV (now MTV U) social networking website by engaging community members and students in a series of vlogs and short articles.

Assigned to the Billing Department, I largely assisted in database management by transcribing and updating nurses’ patient visit notes and researched client case information to support patients, their families and caregivers. Further, I aided in accounting documentation through performing administrative duties including filing and data entry related to client cases.
