As a Geotechnical Engineer in charge of designing new mine pits, I managed the lifecycle of high net worth drilling campaigns while training, leading and developing top performing junior engineers to ensure that an exceptional quality of work was completed to deadline. I successfully managed the largest geotechnical drilling campaign in the company’s history producing the largest sample data base for a single campaign. Working collaboratively in cross functional teams, I collected a range of data in green and brown fields which I analyzed and interpreted to design stable mine walls in the expansion of iron ore mines in the Pilbara. To ensure expectations were met, I liaised with key stakeholders, continually communicating progress and shortfalls. Rio Tinto has a reputation as an industry leader who enforces ethical practices and strict regulations, and my work as a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer gave me tremendous leadership skills and exceptional experience as an emerging professional. Collaborating with my team, I contributed to the successful completion of a HSEQ Audit, and my team was awarded with high commendations. Serving as the point of contact, I was accountable for 30+ active pits and waste dumps and successfully designed drilling campaigns for geotechnical and hydrogeological purposes, a task usually reserved to project engineers. I developed and delivered detailed and accurate slope monitoring plans for seven major iron ore pits, and I logged and collected a high volume of geotechnical samples for multiple drill programs. Contributing to a range of data validations and data management activities, I conducted high quality mapping and photogrammetry to reconcile geological models with real time data and accurately predicted multiple minor rock falls and devised optimal hazard management plans.
