Yared Abera Deme is a Climate Diplomacy Associate at the World Resources Institute (WRI), Africa office. In his role, Yared provides vital research, outreach, coordination, and analytical support on issues pertaining to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and its implementation. His expertise is particularly focused on supporting the annual Conference of Parties (COP) and climate negotiations, with a keen emphasis on Loss and Damage, Climate Finance, and Adaptation.Before joining WRI, Yared served as an independent consultant and led The Youth Print, a youth organization he founded. He has interned at Ethiopia's Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Directorate. As an active and prominent youth climate activist, Yared has represented Ethiopia as an official Youth Delegate at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and as a climate negotiator at COP 23, COP 24, COP 25, COP 26, COP 27 and COP 28.Yared holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Addis Ababa University. He is also in the final stages of completing his Master’s in Peace and Security Studies at the Institute of Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University.In his spare time, Yared enjoys traveling, swimming, horseback riding, meeting new people, and engaging in conversations with senior citizens.
