BAIBYS™ objective is to develop a system that would analyze living sperm cells in real-time using Machine Vision (MV) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), evaluate the cells according to morphological criteria that can only be identified using high magnification, and automatically select the sperm cell with the highest fertilization potential to microinject into the egg. The system will be able to recognize structures in motion in order to evaluate the quality of living sperm cells according to previously established criteria using state-of-the-art AI algorithms.Such an automated system would address the two major factors that currently limit the prevalence of Sperm Selection. First, the system would dramatically reduce the time of the Sperm Selection process and therefore significantly increase the throughput of the fertilization clinic. Second, since the system would optimize the criteria for Sperm Selection it would standardize the selection process between fertilization clinics based on objective criteria. Therefore, the system would minimize the time and cost of the process while maximizing its quality and improving the fertilization rate, pregnancy rate, and most importantly, the rate of healthy babies. In addition, the shorter and automated process would allow a much larger portion of clinics to adopt Sperm Selection and would establish it as the standard of care.
