I lived with a family in Lyon, looking after the children during the day while the parents were at work. Everyday I spoke to the children, two boys aged 14, and 11, in English. This was in order to help them learn by example. I also helped with their understanding of spoken english, writing, and reading, suggesting various novels for them to read, and shows to watch to better understand spoken English.This experience helped me to better understand French culture as well as to improve my French language (specifically with sayings and aspects of the language specific to the younger generation in France). In addition, this experience truly created a great networking opportunity for me in France along with other countries in Europe.

I began as a student myself, quickly moving past my grade level in math and was onto university level mathematics at the age of 17. I started volunteering at Kumon and was quickly offered a job. Working with children as young as 4 to university aged students was a great experience. I quickly became familiar with marking homework as well as helping children with their in-class work, all while monitoring the children to make sure they were focusing on their tasks and not getting distracted or distracting others.
