Yashika is a maritime journalist, a marine environment volunteer, public speaker, educator, author, and traveler. Her exposure with the Philippine maritime industry spans 17 years of writing and reporting for several print and broadcast maritime media, covering issues about manning, maritime education and training, domestic and international shipping, maritime security, marine environmental protection, and interests of the seafaring families. Hailing from a family of seafarers, Yashika extends her passion for the sea by volunteering with the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA). For over 13 years of membership, she participated in various Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Safety, Marine Environmental Protection, and Maritime Community Relations projects. She also served as the organization’s Public Information Officer, Trainer, and one of the authors of the PCGA Ladderized Training Program manual. She has also written, directed, and edited the promotional video presentations of the PCGA from 2017-2018. Yashika was promoted to the rank of Auxiliary Captain in 2018.Yashika also served as a lecturer with the Coast Guard Education and Training Command (CGETC), covering subjects on Media Relations, PR Writing, Public Speaking, Speech Writing, Media Management, Crisis Management for Media, and Leadership Theories. She was also the head writer of the Philippines Coast Guard’s Public Affairs Office and lead anchor of its radio program from 2012-2015. She is currently writing for the oldest broadsheet in the Philippines, The Manila Times, for its Maritime Section and two major maritime publications, Buhay Marino Dyaryo and FAS Maritime. She also serves as the News Editor and Manila Bureau Correspondent for Texas-based Filipino publication Philippine Sentinel. As the pandemic affected modes of education since 2020, Yashika has joined and augmented the educators of O.B. Montessori's CAT Corps of Cadets, teaching Leadership to middle school students and cadet officers through online modalities.
