I am a specialist Speech and Language Therapist who has extensive experience of working with people with swallowing and communication impairments. I have a passion for working with stroke and neurology patients and have significant experience, skills and knowledge in a wide range of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders.I graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree from Manchester Metropolitan University in Speech Pathology and Therapy. I have experience in working with acquired neurological conditions and acute medical conditions which impact on communication and swallowing. I have also worked with people who have voice disorders and have experience of working with transgender clients for vocal feminisation therapy.I strive to empower clients to achieve their goals and maximise their potential with their speech, language, communication or swallowing difficulties and have been praised on my ability to encourage independence and confidence, focusing on achievable goals to enable improvement despite their impairments.I work within the NHS as an Advanced Specialist & Clinical Team Lead for Speech and Language Therapy in the Warwickshire Integrated Community Stroke Service. I manage a small team of therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants, and support with the operational management of the service. In my career, I have worked with highly-experienced medical and neurological specialists improving services and enhancing staff knowledge, skills and expertise.As an advocate for multi-disciplinary working, I have extensive experience of working collaboratively to enable clients to maximise their potential in their therapy and rehabilitation. I promote holistic working in my interventions and I place importance on exploring the emotional, psychological and physical needs a client may have, in addition to their specific speech, language, communication and swallowing needs.In addition to this, I work as an Expert Witness offering my expertise and knowledge in a variety of cases, and supporting in medico-legal matters.Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, socialising and going to the gym. I am an avid book reader and enjoy my well-earned holidays.I am passionate about my job and making a difference to clients’ lives, promoting independence and encouraging confidence with communication and swallowing is my main ambition. The positive outcomes that come from my interventions are the most rewarding part of my job.
