I double majored in Communication Arts (Radio and Television track) and Life Sciences and Communication and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison by 2024. My focus for school was to learn how to do creative directing and cinematography. My ultimate goal is to become a leader in the film industry so that I can become a role model for young people who like me and have similar dreams as I do.Besides film, some hobbies of mine include, painting, cooking, and modeling! I’d love to pursue a career in these fields as well. Background:I grew up as an African-American girl living in Madison Wisconsin, which came with many challenges especially those related to my career and major choices. When I was young, my life goal became being in the film industry-- since I was in the first grade I decided I really loved cinema and was amazed by all that goes into it. A big influencer in my decision is that most people who knew me said I’d be great as a film director or a writer. In the 6th grade, I officially focused on becoming a film producer or director. Living in Madison made it hard for me to find sources and leaders in the industry that I could look up to or get advice from, but that didn't stop me. As a child, I researched as much as possible to find the right path for my dream. I set my sights on university and internships with my goal in mind.In middle school, I applied to two college prep programs. The first, AVID, closed some of the opportunity gaps I experienced with my identity and guided students who wanted to be ready for college. Next, ITA, or Information Technology Academy through UW Madison gave me a boost on the tech front, including film classes, during which I was a director. During ITA, I was a leader with my knowledge of film and on the student council!I stuck with these programs until high school graduation, joining the PEOPLE Program afterward through both. With the skills I've learned, I've won many awards-- inside and outside of school-- and was chosen for three of my top-pick internships! UW is where I completed my internships through the UW Hospital's NACHP, Boys & Girls Club, & WI Orchestra. Currently, I am making a short film portfolio project with my friend Fatima, Experiences of Love, with the production team Udon Guild Productions. I look forward to using my video production skills to bring a new edge to the film industry. My name is pronounced YAZ-mean TRA-mel.
