I am a protein biochemist with a penchant for molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology. Skilled in bacterial epigenetics, DNA methylation, enzyme kinetics, molecular cloning, protein purification, protein chromatography, and bacterial cell culture. PhD was focused in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). I recently finished a postdoctoral research stint at the University of Warwick, Coventry, UK. My area of focus was Schizosaccaromyces pombe (fission yeast) cytokinesis. More specifically, I worked on understanding how cell wall synthesis in fission yeast coordinates its activity along with cytokinetic ring contraction during mitotic division. The skills I have acquired during postdoc research includes yeast genetics, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis, CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing, and heterologous expression of yeast proteins. I also have extensive experience in content-editing, and critical editing of medical literature as well as English language copy-editing and proof-reading. I am keen on science communication, bioethics, and popular science outreach and education. I am passionate about science fiction, football, and sports in general.

Postdoctoral ResearcherUniversity Of Warwick Sep 2020 - Aug 2022Coventry, England, United KingdomProject – Understanding the concerted action of cell wall biosynthesis machinery with actomyosin ring constriction during fission yeast cell division.Highlights:• Designed a protein biochemistry workflow to validate protein-protein interactions from preliminary mass spectrometric analyses of crosslinked actomyosin ring structures.• Cloned and purified globular subdomains of transmembrane proteins involved in fission yeast cell wall biosynthesis.• Adapted CRISPR-cas9 mediated gene editing to generate single or cluster point mutations in S. pombe.• Employed yeast genetics and rDNA technology to generate cell wall biosynthesis mutants in S. pombe.AchievementsGenerated a temperature sensitive fission yeast mutant which showed defective cell division phenotype upon growth at non-permissive temparature.Gained considerable experience in live cell fluorescence ultra-resolution microscopy of S. pombe cells. Used 2D and 3D image analyses to generate a detailed visual representation of the cell wall biosynthesis component, smi1, in the context of cell division. -

The main objectives were, 1) Generation of a Helicobacter pylori 26695 strain where HpyAXVII DNA methyltransferase is constitutively “ON” by integrating an ectopic copy of a non phase variable hpyaxvii gene, 2) Detailed enzyme kinetic analyses of how H. pylori DprA (DNA Processing protein A) stimulates DNA methyltransferase activity in single stranded as well as double stranded DNA.
