Initially hired as Director and promoted three times. Acquired by WRI. In 1997, 60% of places to stay in the world were not bookable electronically. Phone, fax and written confirmations were still the norm for these independent hotels, bed and breakfasts, resorts - a high friction and inefficient process. Our two-sided marketplace required us to create an easy-to-use and dependable system for the 60% as well as build a network of distribution channels where consumers and travel agents could research that hotel inventory and make immediate, confirmed bookings. • Sourced, created, and grew over 500 distribution partnerships ranging from the GDS (e.g. Sabre), internet partners (e.g. Yahoo), online travel agents, and call centers.• Led new business initiatives including implementing the first-ever TCP/IP connection to Sabre; integrating new lodging types via acquisition (e.g. BedandBreakfast.com) and launching product development (e.g. dynamic packaging for the ski industry); expanding geographic into Europe and Asia and starting new demand-generating products (e.g. walk-up reservation desks at airports and check-out features for hotels’ web sites). • Led product and marketing for placestostay.com and grew bookings over 100X to $25M in annual bookings.• Built and led a 30-person sales, account management, and operations team. -
