Right out of university, I took up the challenge to build Edmark’s corporate communications capability. Empowered with a direct line to the CEO, I designed and ran a corporate communications structure covering the good ol’ public and media relations, digital medias, internal communications and customer service, as well as diplomatic relations.Year 1 saw a lot of traveling to the African continent; Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa and a string of others. What began as a one-(wo)man function grew into a team of three, working closely with the CMO to effectively tap on the strengths of on-the-ground Marketing teams.As Year 2 kicked in, my role expanded into compliance. Being in the business of manufacturing and distributing food supplements, there is a need to streamline information on product efficacies, aligning it to each local government. Alongside the CEO, we rolled out a company-wide compliance exercise on visual materials release rights, giving me a taste of copyright laws.After close to three years living life out of a suitcase, I was looking to root myself back in Malaysia. Edmark trusted my bold ideas, my untested self, and served as a springboard of a lifetime. My global teammates are my forever family.An opportunity in Bosch came up; massive global presence, personal childhood brand, a single contributor role within a larger global team. The portfolio included the manufacturing and corporate functions in Malaysia for Bosch’s diverse market offerings; from lifelong power tools and automotive parts, to the home appliances and industrial technologies.Whilst in Bosch, I was selected as part of the Young Corporate Malaysians (YCM) Essentials 2018 cohort. A session featured two partners from the Risk Assurance practice in PwC Malaysia. After several conversations, and a very lengthy consideration, I took a leap of faith.Riding through the unchartered territory, my journey saw experiences in Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit, Process Controls, and Compliance Culture. From co-facilitating risk profiling workshops at C-suite levels, to outlining audit universes and risk rating criteria; it was an unexpected but fulfilling ride.Today, under the tutelage of my mother who has been in the financial planning industry for over three decades with her own agency in AIA, I (finally) joined her on this journey. Money management has always been a keen interest area and I have my mother to thank for the foundational knowledge and continuous coaching.So, stay tuned to see how the future unfolds as I continue to "just keep swimming".
