The first of its kind in the New York City region, in 2011 I developed a seminar course for New York University on how the design of cities impacts our physical, mental and environmental health. With an emphasis on connecting peer-reviewed scientific research to design outcomes, the course surveyed human health issues at various scales, from regional planning to community and street design, and reviewed how that data informs policy and design decisions. In revealing the synergies between design or policy decisions and specific health outcomes the students were encouraged to see the built environment holistically and understand how to impact these systems from various points of influence.

Responsible for strategic planning and program delivery, my primary achievements included stewardship of content delivery for the NYC Retrofit Accelerator, a multi-million dollar, multi-year City and State funded program to advance energy efficiency in private sector buildings. My work was central to successful engagement with a broad swath of the building sector, advancing innovative technology and processes across New York. An outward facing organization, much of my work was focused on growing our community and promoting our resource center dedicated to energy efficiency in Manhattan- the first of its kind anywhere. The results included multiple weekly events year round and thousands of visitors. We produced dozens of deliverables including case studies, reports and other highly engaging and carefully curated resources. Behind this public activity, I was a frequent contributor to major policy discussions at the City, State and Federal level, a regular speaker in public forums and either authored or edited of all their published material.

As the first Director of the NYC office of YR&G I developed significant new business within the for real estate and design industry and generated our first contract for services with the City of New York. My consulting work included green building analysis and certifications as well as sustainable master planning services in the US, Russia and Puerto Rico.

Responsible for programs and policy advocacy to advance green building across New York, during my tenure our the staff grew from 4 to 15, membership doubled and our active network tripled. I personally developed multiple, high-profile conferences attended by hundreds of professionals from the public and private sector, addressing a diverse range of issues from both strategic and technical perspectives. I played a central role in the NYC Green Codes Task Force which engaged 8 separate technical committees and required shepherding more than 100 specific policy proposals through an array of City, State and private sector policy actors. I wrote and edited large potions of GPRO, a national green constructions skills training program that has reached over 10,000 contractors to date. My design background also allowed me to guide an organizational rebranding and spearhead our social media presence and blog.
