Hello! My name is Renee Yeung, and I am a junior at the University of Washington studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics. I strive to be an advocate for engineering students to discover and cultivate their interests, grow in what makes them unique, and find supportive community as they build their network. I have had the opportunity to be a student leader in the engineering community as I sat on the Engineering Student Council representing the Society of Women Engineers, where I focused on building corporate relationships and connecting students with professional mentors. I am the Community Committee Chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and plan department-wide events to build community among peers and professors. This past summer, I had the privilege of interning at the University of Michigan, where I studied interfacial thermal resistance under Professor Pramod Reddy, which has helped narrow my interest in the semiconductor field. Currently, I am working at the Novosselov Research Group with a focus on aerosol science. Academically, I am a National Merit Scholar, have been awarded the Dean’s List for six consecutive quarters, and have taken several fascinating courses such as AI and Clean Energy Technology and CAD Technology. Outside of engineering classes, I enjoy playing violin, working at my university’s makerspace, where I provide technical support for students with their personal innovative projects, and being a chapter leader of the Best Buddies International nonprofit and campus leader of the Reformed University Fellowship. My engineering study abroad in Switzerland has allowed me to appreciate learning alongside another culture and encouraged me to advocate for other students to explore all the engineering world has to offer.
