I have developed a new oxide grade, low firing grade, which can be fired at low temperatures. This innovation offers the advantages of reducing carbon emissions and production lead time without altering the physical properties of the product. I am proud this project won a competition and received funding (£136 K) from both UKRI (12F2306-15) and Morgan. Furthermore, I have successfully addressed the 'Zoning' issue in the production process, resulting in a significant increase in the yield rate, which has risen from approximately 85% to nearly 100%. I resolved the discoloration problem with the cold-isostatic pressing product during firing and sintering. Moreover, I addressed the raw materials challenge associated with the extrusion, leading Morgan to substantially cut down on inventory by more than few hundred tons annually.

Key Achievements and SkillsSinter-fusion activities. I pioneered a new concept involving sintered cemented carbides. I modified three different cutting grades with grain sizes from ultra-fine to medium by changing the carbon balance and chemical compositions. I employed a range of analytical techniques and software in this project, including EBSD, EDS, thermos-calc, etc. It involved collaboration with several universities. The material yield ratio was increased from 50% to 93%.Cermet grade development. I was in charge of a project for developing a new grade of cermet for sawing applications. A new sintering method improved the weldability of the saw teeth.Extrusion. I improved the manufacturing process for extrusion and tools design. The size of the cooling hole for the cutting tool was reduced by 0.1mm using a new filament design. Powder metallurgy. I made recommendations relating to the operation of a powder plant that increased the yield rate to 90% using an advanced dosing procedure.Innovation. I introduced the Single-Edge Notched Beam (SENB) test for fracture toughness (KIc) in Sandvik (Coventry) and adapted it for specific applications involving cemented carbides.Patent. I am one of the inventors of a new cBN gradient patent. The patent code is EP2641675A1, WO2013139603A1, and US20150082963A1.Project management.Customer service. I was involved in market support and failure analysis of metal cutting tools, and documentation of the competitor's grades.Grade selection. Mechanical tests (transverse rupture strength (TRS) test, wear test (ASTM B611 & B65), compression test, interrupted cutting test, and other properties evaluations according to the ISO or ASTM standards).Nondestructive testing (NDT). CAD tools. I used computer modeling FEM (Abaqus) for mechanical test investigations.
