As a microbiologist and a bioinformatician, I have dived into scientific research since the third year of my undergrad, focusing on microbiology and molecular Biology. During my PhD, my study focused on understanding how the shifts of the host microbiome contribute to the alteration of the gut microbial functionality, pathogen colonization, and the antibiotic resistance gene profile, and how this process subsequently contributes to microbial regulation of host physiology. In my research, we analyze microbial community structure in chicken model and used high thought-put sequencing technologies to study this complex system, which allow us to set targets for how we should influence the microbiome to promote health in livestock and humans.Handling research projects for almost a decade, I have developed genetics analyses skillsets. Just as essential as my expertise, I also managed to build up good research/experiment project designing, self-learning initiative/ability (on academic professional level), oral/writing communication and presentation, project management and team building, cost management, result interpretation and incubation, risk assessment/ management, pressure resistance, and most importantly, analytical/critical thinking. It is my enthusiasm about science and all these amazing experiences that bring me this far along years.

Postdoctoral Research ScientistUniversity Of Alberta Jul 2023 - Jun 2024Edmonton, Alberta, CanadaDedicated and accomplished postdoctoral research scientist with expertise in fermented food, microbiology and gut health. Experienced in investigating the impact of microbiome shifts on host physiology, microbial functionality, and pathogen colonization. Proficient in utilizing high-throughput sequencing technologies, molecular biology techniques, and bioinformatics tools. Proven ability to analyze complex microbial community structures and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge. Passionate about promoting health in both livestock and human populations. -
Phd StudentUniversity Of Alberta Sep 2016 - Dec 2022A great population of symbiotic microbes colonizes the gut of vertebrates, which has ~100 times in genetic capacity compared to their hosts. Animal GI tracts are highly selective for commensal bacteria, meaning the microbes tolerated by the gut could be essential. Evidence showed that the symbiotic bacteria benefit their hosts in pathogen exclusion, disease resistance, nutrient metabolism, and immune response. Dysbiosis of the microbial community may cause corresponding diseases. Antibiotic is widely accepted in livestock production in many countries, yet it strongly affects the abundance and balance of their gut microbiota. I am trying to develop effective alternatives of antibiotics in poultry production using commensal bacteria and understand how microbiota contribute to the host. By understanding the mechanisms of which/how specific bacteria regulate host physiology may help us target and control the microbiota to promote health in poultry production and food safety. -
