High temperature oxidation investigation of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) interconnects The interconnect sits between each individual cell and its purpose is to connect each cell in series, so that the electricity each cell generates can be combined. Because the interconnect is exposed to both the oxidizing and reducing side of the cell at high temperatures, it must be extremely stable. In this work, variety of metallic interconnects oxidation behavior were investigated under a simulated SOFC operation environment. Coal syngas, which is a clean way for fossil energy application, was used as the anode gas. • Designed a testing system for investigating SOFC interconnects (Fe- and Ni-based alloys) oxidation behavior at high temperature (800C) with loaded current in coal syngas and air• Analyzed the oxide layer formed on interconnect materials with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Area Specific Resistance (ASR)• Modeled high temperature oxidation behavior of SOFC interconnects
