Conducted in person research and experiments on University of California, Santa Barbara campus in the Yeung Lab, to understand how encapsulating lignocellulosic compounds in varying hydrogel geometries affects the rate of attack of distinct bacterial species (Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas putida, Vibrio natriegens, E coli Nissle). The geometries will be investigated with the intention of deterring bacterial attack, increasing the preservation life of lignocellulosic feedstock. This technology has applications in food preservation, leading to more sustainable produce by increasing the shelf life.
