About Yin Kong

I am a versatile designer with 15+ years of experience. My academic background in Urban Studies and Design (Columbia University / University College London) is the foundation of my research based design process. I approach design at different scales, from product design to urban curation & development. I work best responding to a rich context -- teasing out the essence, communicating the narrative, and finding the best use of design. My strength is in collaborative work. I love bringing synergetic pieces together and then applying my own design efforts as a sort of mortar, holding all the bricks together to achieve impactful goals. On a side note / most importantly, I have a love of food that has permeated to all parts of my life! Professionally, I've managed to tie in food with any type of project I've worked on. Food product design & production have been some of my favourite experiences -- connecting with local producers, bringing together different flavours, and exploring creativity with our sense of taste.www.thinkchinatown.org - - - - - Yin Kong 邝海音 is a community-based designer living and working in Manhattan's Chinatown. Think!Chinatown is the culmination of her work in urban design, museum, culinary & cultural instruction, and community engagement. She also spent time teaching at the Black Sesame Kitchen in Beijing and onboard Semester at Sea. She loves sharing Thomas Jefferson facts which she picked up at her time working at Monticello. Yin holds a Masters of Architecture, Urban Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London and a Bachelors of Arts, Urban Studies from Columbia University.
