Data Analyst
• By using various business intelligence analysis software, such as Power BI, Tableau, and Excel (Power Pivot and Power Query data modeling) to do data analysis and visualization. Specifically, I have created dashboard through constructing the data models being directly connected to the “live data”, which significantly improve the data accuracy and efficiency as well as avoid updating the dashboard by manual every semester or every year. It is a long-term view innovation in AIE office at CCAC. Under this innovation, my college-wide data users can access to the newest numbers on the dashboard in a daily base. • As a principal investigator, I have led several research projects. (1) A research project to investigate how “Course Modalities” predicted or were associated with students’ Biology course success and persistence at CCAC. As a principle investigator, I have been responsible for initiating the research questions and hypothesis, applying for IRB approval, sampling, collecting data and analyzing data by statistical methods (e.g., Reliability analysis, Factor analysis, ANOVA, Linear Regression with Dummy Variable, Multivariate Logistic Regression, Crosstab and Chi-square etc.), and writing up the research paper etc. Currently, my presentation proposal for this research project was already accepted by the AIR Forum 2024 national conference (Association of Institutional Research), and I presented my research findings in the AIR Forum 2024 in Denver on May, 2024. (2) A research project to investigate indicators predict or associate students’ retention and academic success (In progress). (3) A project to investigate indicators predict or associate students’ general education proficiency and persistence (in progress). All these research projects have been done by Quantitative methodology, including sampling, creating measurement, collecting data through online survey, and analyzing data by using statistical methods.
Research Analyst Ii
There are two primary job responsibilities for me: (1) Data Analysis: • Be responsible for Federal and State reports, such as IPEDS, UDS, NCAA (a national survey for the Athletic Department), ASEE (A national survey for the Engineering Department), NASAD & NASM (A national survey for the Music and Art & Design Department), Open Door Survey (A national survey for the Global Affairs Office), US News, SSCI, etc. and internal reports, such as Fact Books, Common Data Sets, Demographic Books, and Ad Hoc data requests etc. • Be responsible for using different software to generate numbers from the Banner database, such as PowerPivot table, Pyramid (Blackboard Analytic software), and Access. • Be responsible for using Office software (e.g., Excel) and Business Intelligence Analytic software (e.g., Pyramid, Tableau, and Power BI) to effectively and precisely visualize and analyze data. (2) Research Analysis:Independently work as a principal investigator (PI) for the research projects including initiating research ideas, designing research methodology, analyzing data through SPSS and Excel, writing up research reports, presenting research finding to different levels of audiences, such as the Department Chairs, College Deans, Provost, or national conference. For example, one of my research papers was presented in the 2019 NSSR (National Symposium of Success and Retention) annual conference (Title: Examining the Role of Pre-College Characteristics, Student Engagement, and Teaching Effectiveness in Freshmen Retention and Academic Performance). ¬¬¬¬All in all, my work would provide data-driven evidence to university administers and faculty members to make their decisions.
Phd
I earned a Ph.D. of Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Higher Education . My dissertation research focus on applying academic achievement motivation theories, such as Weiner's (1985) Attribution Theory and Eccles et al.'s Expectancy-value Theory to examine college freshmen's academic success and persistence moderated or mediated by academic stress and coping strategies.
