In Nov. I fly away from the US to spend winter at my cozy little nest in Mumbai and also visit once my home town Bhavnagar. In Jan 2018 a good old friend offered me a Cup of Tea using the Jaggery Powder as a sweetener instead of Sugar. I not only liked the taste/flavor but was astonished to read the health benefits of Jaggery mentioned in an Ayurvedic book. So I took a bag of Jaggery Powder with me to the US. But soon it was finished and the Jaggery Powder brands available at the US Indian groceries I tried but none matched with the earlier taste I had. So, during my next India trip in Jan 2019, I extensively traveled to Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli belt of the Sugarcane farms of the Maharashtra State known for producing the best quality Jaggery. My aim was to find out the source of the best quality Jaggery Powder. But I found one more Jaggery item called KAKVI by the natives. It's very nutritious with lots of health benefits. As a matter of fact its Cane Syrup. Sugar cane Juice gets fermented/oxidated very fast and for extending the shelf life of the fresh Cane Juice it is converted to KAKVI = Cane Syrup. Making KAKVI out of the fresh Sugarcane Juice is art now known to very few tribal families of Maharashtra. Under the dynamic leadership of PM Narendra Modi, some young engineers from Sugarcane Farming families have started production of Jaggery items at their farms in Maharashtra State. And in response to the request from a son of my friend, I have now agreed to extend the helping hand in export sales promotion/marketing of his Jaggery product items i.e. Jaggery Powder & KAKVI =Cane Syrup.
