I am an in-house patent attorney at Yokogawa Electric Corporation, and responsible for management of creation, protection and utilization of company's intellectual property, covering patent/design/trademark portfolio management, IP disputes, and providing comprehensive IP support for business units. I started my career as a semiconductor engineer (especially, EDA - Electronic Design Automation technology) at Mitsubishi Electric and then I served 18 years in IBM IP Law team as a senior patent attorney and patent portfolio manager for the company's semiconductor patents. After that (and before joining Yokogawa), I worked for Seiko Holdings Group, Japanese major timepiece company, as an IP expert and the manager for its IP department. My career includes semiconductor design, patent filing and prosecution (semiconductor, software, computer architecture, storage, network computing, IoT, AI etc.), patent clearance and licensing, copyright matter (including Open Source) and IP-related contracts.For 15+ years, I was a member of Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) in its software and patent committees and international harmonization project, and participated in international conferences with EPO-JPO-USPTO heads several times to provide industry's opinions and requirements for evolution of each patent system.
