In 2001 Shenzhen counted very few foreigners, it was not an easy city to live in as an expat, almost nobody spoke english, very few entertaining places, only 2 or 3 decent western food restaurants etc. But it was very exciting to witness the emerging of what is now considered Asia's tech capital.At that time there were very few bars playing good music, so with my then flatmate, @brent deverman Brent Deverman, we decided to ask some bars to let us play our music and give us discounts on some drinks if we were to bring a bunch of us to their venue.
