PI of the SimBioSys (Simulation, Biology & Systems) Lab at Emory University, supervising undergraduate and graduate students on research into distributed systems (caching, tracing, systems building), cybersecurity (attack detection, security education), and data science (computational epidemiology, machine learning). I have published 65+ peer-reviewed articles on these topics to top scientific venues in different disciplines, including PNAS in science; USENIX OSDI (award paper), NSDI (award paper), ASPLOS, and EuroSys for systems; SIGMETRICS (award paper) for performance measurement research; VLDB for databases; ICWSM (award paper) for data science, and the Malaria Journal for malaria research. I secured $2M+ of funding through competitive grants and contracts, including winning an NSF CAREER award. I have served on 30+ program committees, advised 13 PhD students (6 as chair) and over 30 undergraduate honors students, and given 70+ presentations and keynotes (including at top universities) and two TEDx talks that together have 2+ million views.

I co-founded and grew a cybersecurity company that focuses on consulting and penetration testing, driving custom security innovation and bespoke attack solutions for leading companies with demanding security needs. I led the company’s research strategy which was a central component of the Syndis vision and a core aspect that enabled its growth to over 50 employees following a reverse merger with Origo hf. in 2021.

Adversary was an online gamified training platform that put you in the shoes of the hacker, providing hands-on training for you and your developers. It joined the Secure Code Warrior family in April 2020 and has since been integrated into its products to train tens of thousands of developers about cybersecurity.

I led the RU Systems Lab, with focus on systems and cybersecurity research, and co-founded the RU CRESS Center of Research in Engineering Software Systems. I devised the curricula and taught courses on Operating Systems and Networking, Computer Security, and the Structure of Information Networks in the School of Computer Science. I also supervised B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D. students and post-docs on distributed systems research.

Systems research in the Distributed Middleware group. My focused was on multi-tenant caching services and devising algorithms to improve the performance and feature set for the caching component of IBM's XC-10 network caching appliance. I worked on improving scalability of multicast protocols for data centers (Dr. Multicast) and over wide-area networks (Magnet and GO). Supervisor: Dr. Eliezer Dekel.

As a summer intern, I implemented range queries for a large-scale distributed database infrastructure (PNUTS) that become the main database at Yahoo! for several years. I co-authored two USPTO patents for the novel approach, and published a research paper about the system (VLDB) with other members in the research group.
