Originally trained as teacher of Fine Arts and Art History, he holds a Masters degree in Arts, Culture and Media from the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen specializing in arts and social theory. Currently Yoeri Meessen (NL) is Director of National Museum House of the Book, the oldest book museum in the world. Previously Yoeri Meessen was Head of Education & interpretation at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and Associate Director Education & Public Affairs at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. He has worked at Manifesta, the itinerant European Biennial of Contemporary Art where he was responsible for the conceptualization of the Biennial’s Art Mediation department. He was Head of Education of Manifesta 7 (Italy-2008), Manifesta 8 (Spain-2010) and Manifesta 9 (Belgium-2012). Yoeri Meessen had developed collaborative projects with various art institutions and schools including the Dutch Art Institute, the European Artistic Research Network and the University of Murcia. He has lectured and given workshops at institutes including The Rijksakademie (Amsterdam), Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam), Castello di Rivoli (Rivoli), Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam), Palazzo Strozzi (Florence), Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts (Maastricht), Fondazione Galleria Civica (Trento), Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary –Augarten (Vienna), De Appel (Amsterdam), University of Cartagena (Cartagena), Museion (Bolzano), Schunck (Heerlen) and in 2015 he was critical referent to the Annual Rotterdam Lecture of the Erasmus University. Yoeri is member of the artistic team of Public Works (Utrecht) and former chairman of The New School Collective. He is board member of the professional advisory boards of the Piet Zwart Institute Education in Art (Rotterdam).
