Over the past 15 years, I have helped women who feel lost in the second half of life, or who feel like they are fading or flailing. Along with teaching yoga and strength training classes, leading courses, and working with private clients, I have conducted retreats, yoga teacher trainings, and yoga therapy trainings in Greece, Uganda, the Navajo Nation, the Dominican Republic, Detroit, New Jersey, Colorado, and Hawaii. I direct the nonprofit Yoga Impact whose mission is to bring mindfulness skills to those who feel disenfranchised from self-care and access to wellness.My approach to working with people is the product of 35 years of my own practice, ownership of a successful yoga studio in Hawaii for 5 years, 11 years of training yoga teachers, 7 years of training yoga therapists, and 25 years of teaching. My work has been featured in the Accessible Yoga Journal, the Huffington Post, Yoga Therapy Today, Boulder Magazine, and Natural Awakenings. I have done yoga therapy presentations at the International Women’s Writing Guild, the Global Ayurveda Conference, and the Northern New Jersey Transitional Yoga Conference. A native Detroiter, I lived in rural Hawaii for 18 years, where I learned to swing a machete to take down her banana trees, 12-foot-high castor bean plants, and sugar cane. Having studied finish carpentry in Minnesota in her late 20s, I became a co-designer of the cabinetry and the landscaping at Underhill, the earth roof stone home that my third husband, Jim, designed and is building himself. So, in my 50’s I discovered that I can swing a pickaxe, build stone walls, live through winter with hardly any heat and only an outdoor privy, and hang off the edge of the roof to see the birds nested in the beams.
