About Yohannes Afework

Yohannes is environmental and natural resource management specialist with over 20 years of experience; of which over 8 years has been in different managerial and technical leadership positions. Currently, he is working as Environmental and Climate Change Sector Lead in RFSA program, which is a five years program with over 100 million dollar funded by USAID. Within the sector he is managing staffs, budget and the tasks mainly on environmental and climate risk compliance and natural resources management. Technically he has led the development of environmental documentations including environmental and social impact assessment, programmatic environmental assessment, environmental mitigation and monitoring plan, climate risk management, and pesticide evaluation and safer use action plan. Yohannes provided technical support to Joint Emergency Operation Program consortium members (CRS, WV, FH, SAVE, CARE and REST) on the implementation of environmental and climate risk compliance. He has coordinated and organized capacity building trainings and workshops for government and partner staffs on environment, climate change and natural resources management. He has conducted research on natural resources, climate change and environment and got published some of the papers. He has also supported other CRS country programs including Niger, Kenya, DRC, Uganda and Burkinafaso.Academically, Yohannes has a Master of Science in Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He has also master’s degree in Geo-Information for Sustainable Soil Resources Management, from ITC, The Netherlands; and BSc Degree in Soil & Water Conservation from Haramaya University, Ethiopia.
