About Yolanda Kern

I enlisted in the Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program in July 1988 and was commissioned as an Ensign in July 1991 after completing Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I. My first assignment was Security Manager and Family Service Director at Naval Air Station Adak, Alaska. In 1993, I was reassigned to Patrol Squadron 30, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., where I served as the Maintenance Department Administrative Officer and Line Division Officer. In 1996, I transferred to Personnel Support Detachment Rota, Spain, where I served as the Assistant Officer in Charge. Upon my return in June 1998, I reported to Trident Training Facility, Submarine Base Bangor, Washington, where I served as the Leadership and Training Department Director. I graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., in March 2003. Following this, I completed a tour at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., as a Bureau of Personnel Claimant Manpower Analyst. In November 2004, I assumed duties as commander of the Spokane MEPS. Following this tour, I attended the College of Naval Warfare at the Naval War College where I graduated in November 2008. In January 2009, I reported for duty at United States Southern Command in Miami, Fla. where I served as the Navy Total Force Strength Manager and Reserve Operational Support Officer, providing Total Force, active and reserve, manning solutions to U. S. Southern Command and its activities in Latin America and the Caribbean. I then served as the Officer in Charge at the US National Support Element in Larissa, Greece from March 2012 to March 2013. In April 2013, I reported as Schools Administrator/Learning Standards Officer at Officer Training Command Newport, Rhode Island. In June 2014, I assumed duties as Officer Candidate School Director. In July 2016, I transferred to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California where I assumed duties as Director of Programs. In October 2018, I retired from the Navy. In February 2020, I joined the Federal Civil Service as a Management Analyst (Military Manpower) at Submarine Learning Center HQ in Groton, CT.
