Yolanda Lippert was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She pursued a degree in Political Science at the University of Michigan and then continued on to receive a law degree from UC Berkeley’s School of Law. Ms. Lippert has worked for almost twenty years as a prosecutor with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office ever since graduating from law school. She spent four years early on in her career working exclusively in the Domestic Violence Unit of her office and was selected to be a specialized attorney handling cases identified as the highest risk in that division. She went on to the main felony courthouse at 26th and California where she ran one of the busiest courtrooms in the county, taking many sex and murder cases to trial. She was then chosen to be a Supervisor in the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Unit of her office. In that role, she oversaw all of the criminal charging decisions for sex assault cases and internet crimes where a child was the victim. Additionally, Ms. Lippert served for three years as a Commander of the Cook County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force which facilitates the investigations and training for the County’s over 60 affiliate agencies following mandates from the Department of Justice. Currently, Ms. Lippert is a supervisor in the Felony Trial Division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. In that role she oversees all cases and decisions being made in the several thousand pending felonies in several of the courtrooms at the Leighton Criminal Court Building at 26th and California; in addition to working collaboratively with partner agencies to review and improve functioning of one of the nation’s largest criminal justice systems. She also makes it a priority to maintain her own caseload so that she is able to continue to use her voice to represent victims of crime in Cook County.
