About Yomar Lopez
I have well over 20 years of experience in IT and consulting services, sprinkled with generous heaps of project management, process/lean optimization, sales, and marketing, due to an early start supporting information systems in the academic and small business environments. In my spare time, I do freelance writing and provide business services of all sorts, which has allowed me to connect with other small business owners, professionals, and friends alike. I'm also NISM-certified in social media strategy and one of their biggest contributors. In A Nutshell:* IT at all organizational levels* Business analyst* Gap fillerWhile it may seem like a very unlikely and disconnected set of skills, there are certainly common threads. First, I know how to engage people and set up teams for success. I'm a pretty darn good writer.. or so I have been told many a time! Lastly, I'm good at analyzing things, breaking them down to their finer points while not losing sight of the big picture. Now for a bit about me as a person...Whenver possible, I connect with local communities and industry events: marketing, technology, logistic, meetups, fan events - it's all great! Locally, I have enjoyed the lunch and learn events hosted by Georgia Tech and other industry leaders in the CSRA. I've also been involved with TAG (Technology Association of Georgia) and plan to get more active in the coming years.Going back to my youth, I spent a lot of my time doing electronic break-fix, writing, cartooning, and enjoying good books. Inspiration from Atari had me creating games from a young age. Outside of tech and software dev, I am passionate about business development, process improvement, indie/geek culture, creativity, strategic planning, coaching, and, yes, gaming (including gamification and game theory/design).You'd be surprised how many connections there are between all these things, especially when it comes to understanding human behaviors and what keeps us engaged!
Listed skills include Online Marketing, Seo, Wordpress, Blogging, and 46 others.

Service Manager & Business Analyst
CurrentSuper excited to be a part of the Cross Link Consulting family!Cross Link is a very unique IT consulting firm in that our approach is all about immersing ourselves in client business operations. This allows us to go beyond the break-fix model and transactional approach of your typical MSP or consulting firm. Our president, Patrick Reynolds, is committed to developing relationships and being invested in people above all. He genuinely cares about empowering those around him. It is refreshing because I have always felt that if you treat people well and help others succeed, success and profitability come naturally. Our goal together is to focus further on refining the customer experience and making continuous improvement a reality. My contributions center around process improvement, incident management, project leadership, and business development, along with addressing technical opportunities and strategic opportunities thereof. Here at CLC we all wear many hats and have a "roll up your sleeves" approach to service delivery. As such, I am involved in reporting, procurement, leading projects, developing solutions, and resolving technical issues. Every day brings exciting new opportunities to go beyond what it means to be an IT provider and strengthening relationships along the way.
Freelance Writer, Tech Specialist, Inbound Marketer, Content Developer (Contract)
CurrentMy consulting work spans the full spectrum of technical/implementation to business/strategy. Roles include business analyst, project manager, network engineer, web designer, digital marketer, technical writer, database administrator, integrator, and more. Here are some of the past projects that we've been involved with:http://reelise.comhttp://richhabits.nethttp://bitsconsulting.nethttp://authorjasonbrant.comAbout me as a professional...Once a "computer guy", always a computer guy. We find that clients often need IT support as either a value-add or core competency. I've continued to work locally as well as virtually/remotely, supporting churches, startups, and small businesses with their information systems. We also keep up with technology to develop articles, tools, apps, systems, white papers, and other resources to better serve our clients and our community.Truly, I wear many hats depending on what my clients need but my work these days is centered around giving smaller brands a voice and helping them level the playing field. This takes the form of ghostwriting, copy editing, inbound marketing (SEO inclusive), web site re-designs, branding, PR, and many other initiatives. What I've found is that most online content and information systems are vastly under-utilized so I help businesses make the most out of what they have available to them. The challenge is working with the limited budgets of small businesses and running lean....Also, I made this cool logo.
Business Development, It & Strategic Planning (Contract)
Performed contract work for PanelBacking.com, Spend Management Experts, We're Magnetic, and other companies. These companies operate in the logistics space, with particular focus in manufacturing, transportation, and warehousing. I also do event management, production support, and other marketing services. My work for these clients includes:* Networking and nurturing leads to develop business partnerships and sales funnels* Performing industry research and training to refine processes, product knowledge, and value propositions* Gathering requirements from potential and current customers to create custom solutions* Exploring opportunities to diversify offerings and re-purpose current resources* Building relationships with existing customers to drive referrals and vendor relationships* Assisting with technology implementations, integrations, process improvement, etc.* Assisting with SEO, copy editing, and other marketing efforts* Employing lean and agile methodology to maximize resources and improve turnaround* Establishing best practices and channel partners for logistics and manufacturing purposes* Establishing metrics for product velocity to ensure on-hand inventory and reduce backorders* Documenting best practices and creating instructional resources, citing additional resources as needed* Assisting with ERP, WMS, and TMS implementation and administration* Developing and managing systems for inventory control, device/asset tracking, and sourcing* Drafting RFP's and sourcing for talent, competitive pricing, technology, and unique solutions, including building/maintaining vendor relations* Managing field teams and vendors averaging around 10-50 people for production and events/campaigns* Assisting with physical and cycle counts of inventory as needed
Project Manager / Online Marketing Strategist (Contract)
Our current joint ventures as the Brinked Media team extend to two exciting product launches:ShinyPrints.comPhotoFunMaker.comWilliam Heinitz, the founder of Brinked, is a brilliant guy with a track record that can excite many of us. He's a very REAL person, which brings the focus back to authenticity and warm connections, as I often like to discuss. This partnership has been a great source of wealth, both in terms of monetary sums and enhancing skill sets. Most so-called SEO experts are new to the game and only look at it from either a marketing perspective or a technical perspective. We blend the best of both worlds to give our clients a real competitive edge. When you focus on the soft side and underlying principles that makes online marketing work, you don't have to worry about being penalized or losing momentum. Of course, we're always learning in our line of work since search engines and Internet trends are always changing, after all. While Inbound Marketing as a whole is a major focus for our services and operations, we do branch out into other things, including, but not limited to, game design, managed services, content development, and strategic operations. You'd be surprised how many things those industries have in common! The next phase in our diversification will likely be creating the urgency in interactive marketing and social media. I am a strong advocate of Seth Godin's "Free Prize Approach" to business. I also feel that the greater picture that the advent of social media has painted really goes back to a growing trend some of us call the "return to reality". I see it as a need for warmth and authenticity.Care to discuss further? Visit me at Y3B, my geek-centric WordPress blog, or tweet me @Yogizilla. I'd love to build conversations with old and new LinkedIn contacts alike! 8)
It Specialist / Business Analyst
At RBW, I had the distinct pleasure of working with some brilliant individuals, including Bob Willert, Renee Lambert, and Chadwick Heard. While I was hired as an IT Specialist with the intent to focus on systems administration and customer onboarding (along with the usual IT fare of break-fix and desktop systems support, of course), my role quickly evolved into much more. Some of my accomplishments and key competencies included:* Maintaining vendor relations, budgeting, and ordering/sourcing IT assets/tools* Drafting and managing RFP's/specs for key initiatives, primarily migrations* Configuring and testing new solutions for system integration, security, and the like* Implementing metrics and producing reports to make us a more data-driven company* Documenting key processes, workflows, and SOP's* Providing sales support by producing presentations, effective copy, web site updates, and more* Functioning as a technical SME during sales meetings and facility walkthroughs* Assisting with warehouse setup/reorganization and inventory reconciliation* Working with multiple data sources to develop dashboards, reports, analytics, and integrations across HRC, WMS, ERP, etc.* Troubleshooting application issues with performance, crashes, data/record locks, discrepancies, and duplication* Performing logistics/SCM operations support functions, with heavy focus on asset location and inventory reconciliation* Improving infrastructure across all locations, including load balancing, hardware refresh, WAP's, and fault toleranceIn short, my role was very much a "roll up my sleeves" type of role. I spent equal time managing projects and working in the field. As we consolidated roles, I absorbed the duties of Webmaster, Content Producer, Business Analyst, Quality Assurance, and Process Excellence. While it was overwhelming at times, I enjoyed and welcomed the ongoing challengea and continuous improvement.
Cio & Acting Ceo (Contract)
Social Prize was an engagement platform built around contests, sweepstakes, and social media. We made it is easy and sustainable to grow your audience, nurture leads, generate buzz, and develop new business. For consumers, we made brand engagement fun and rewarding.I was brought in as a consultant to lead the company and steer us in the right direction. my roles spanned CEO, CIO, designer, project manager, and everything in between. The challenge was performing ongoing gap analysis, running lean, and pivoting as priorities shifted. All of us at Social Prize wore many hats but my role focused mostly on content development, business intelligence, data aggregation, inbound marketing, technology management, developing strategic relationships, and driving value through our platform, to name a few. In short, I was tasked with fine-tuning the platform and cultivating the marketplace. What was interesting is that we weren't trying to compete with Rafflecopter, WooBox, or similar platforms. We were creating a new category which had similarities to other verticals but attempting to get ahead of the next paradigm shift, which is no small feat. Crowdsourcing influence and going beyond technical/spammy SEO were two of our design pillars when it came to product development. Andy Fewtrell was my right-hand man and CTO. We have experience designing games and running businesses and organizations together so it was awesome to team up again.
Chairman Advisory Board
My work with the NISM has been very enriching. My background in education, online marketing, and IT has been put to great use. Since around 2012, I've worked closely with the company founders, stakeholders, and volunteers to develop the curriculum. In fact, the first iteration of the SMS (Social Media Strategist) exam was developed in large part by me. For the sake of objectivity, each exam item goes through a rigorous process of copyediting, psychometrics, research, analytics, and other testing/measurement.My primary contributions include copyediting, content creation, SEO, and technology support. As of 2016, I have taken on the role of Chairman for the advisory committee. Under the new leadership of Jennifer Radke, we've been able to conduct industry research and network with key players in the areas of psychometrics, online learning, test development, accreditation, certification platforms, and more. This role put me in more of a mentor/advisory role, as I was preparing to pass the torch on.The NISM has a very sharp, diverse team and it's been an absolute pleasure working with everyone. I am confident that not only will we considered the first true certification platform for online marketing professionals but also the best in it's class. As strategic planning, reputation management, online visibility, compliance, and brand sentiment become increasingly critical for brands of any size, I see the NISM organization as a key player across all verticals and industries.Today, I continue my work on a project basis during my spare time. My continued contributions lean more towards the areas of automation, information systems, and business intelligence.
Field Manager / Marketing Associate (Contract)
The folks at Michael Alan are all great. These folks understand that, in this changing consumer market, you have to do something extraordinary to catch a potential buyer's attention. They practically reinvented guerrilla marketing and certainly have redefined it. I still keep in touch with the folks over at MAG and have the occasional project come my way but this sort of work is purely project-driven and, thus, not very sustainable as a bill-paying option. Those of you out there that do freelance or consulting work should know exactly what I mean! Good times have been had with the MAG team, that's for sure. I was also invited to their last Christmas party which is only for their elite marketing folks so YAY me!
Tech Analyst / Project Manager
I started off this position as a temp contractor and was soon brought in as a permanent helpdesk analyst. I quickly moved up to a more senior/team lead position and eventually management. As is often expected, titles in IT mean very little so I could best descibe my work as that of a business liaison, trainer/mentor, database administrator, team coordinator, hardware repair supervisor, knowledge manager, and third-tier support analyst. I did all the odds-and-ends work and overlapped with the rest of the management team. Naturally, this meant I didn't get nearly the amount of credit I deserve but I wasn't in it for a pat on the back; in the end, I knew I delivered value to our clients and made sure our support teams were more proactive.
Territory Sales Manager (Contract)
This was a contract for Hewlett-Packard (HP). Our hours were flexible and I reported to Mr. Roventini, who was an absolute professional. I enjoyed this position because I got to help several retail locations increase their sales by educating and training the staff on the benefits of HP equipment and providing realistic selling points, not mere marketing hype. This was completely a self-starter position where I worked closely with retail outlets to make sure they had the knowledge, tools, proper displays, etc. Many did the bare minimum in this role but we were given the ability to run with it and make it our own. That fluidity gave us a lot of opportunity to take initiative. I tried my best to create great incentive programs and contests to get the sales staff engaged in actively selling HP products and it actually worked, for the most part.. It helped that this was when retail salespeople still got commissions. If I could do it again, I probably would. It was a wonderful networking opportunity and I've always been a fan of HP products.
Game Designer & Project Manager (Contract)
While LRE was short-lived, we did get to publish a few games that were sold via Grab.com for digital distribution. We had plans to follow the lead of our friends over at PopCap Games and offer off-the-shelf titles as well as mobile apps but our funding did not stretch that far. Before LRE, I had made video games as a hobby and helped others design their own games by creating algorithms, storyboards, proof of concepts, and more.Today, I use my knowledge of game mechanics to make online content more engaging and sites more "sticky". I have plans to return to the game development arena. Until then, I enjoy helping businesses make their web sites more fun and interactive, which helps increase conversions, participation, retention, and loyalty alike.I'm a firm believer in user-generated, user-driven experiences which has lead me to work more in the areas of UX, considering factors such as usability, portability, compatibility, and other things. I feel there is plenty we can learn from the video game industry, even if you're not a gamer like I am.
Vp, Client Services / Senior Network Engineer
Linear was one of the many IT consulting firms I worked for. I had left Unified Technologies because, after being acquired by Cogni-Case Incorporated, aggressive downsizing began. Linear serviced many Fortune 500 companies in NYC.The primary business of Linear was the cabling and telecommunications side. When Brandon Yuen and I teamed up, we brought in new clients and made the data services side of the business much more lucrative. Though I enjoyed my work at Linear, I decided to move on due to issues with ethics and long-term sustainability. I realize it is taboo to discuss such delicate matters but it simply wasn't a stable environment to continue in.
Desktop Systems Specialist & Assistant Manager
Though this was a position where I made the least amount of money yet put in the most time, I loved working at Pace because of the people. Of course, I fell into the trap of joining start-up's and dot-coms that threw lots of money and nice employment packages at me. I was foolish but I do not regret it though I will never forget my many experiences at Pace University. I tried my hands in everything there: teaching, team leadership, project management, software testing, server administration, network wiring, printer repair, and so much more. My advice to any IT professional is to work in at least one university environment. The pay is not as competitive most of the time and it is surprisingly more cut-throat than one would think but the exposure and learning experiences at every corner mixed in with the networking potential makes it completely worth it.
