Mary Fons is a writer, editor, and presenter specializing in the history of American quilts and the life of quilts in popular culture. She is creator and host of 'Quilt Nerd', a live broadcast on Twitch that explores the vast reaches of quilt nerdery in real time. (Visit twitch.tv/yomaryfons)Mary is the former editor in chief of Quiltfolk magazine (2016-2021) and now serves as Quiltfolk editorial advisor, workshop host, and staff writer. Mary previously served as editor and creative director of Quilty magazine (2010-2014). She has hosted nearly 250 episodes of instructional programming on public television (Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting) and the internet (Quilty). She is the author of Make & Love Quilts: Scrap Quilts for the 21st Century (C&T/StashBooks, 2014) and Dear Quilty (F&W Media, 2015) and from 2010-2015 wrote a bi-monthly columnist for Quilts, Inc. Her articles on quilt history and culture have appeared in Curated Quilts, Modern Patchwork, and Love of Quilting magazine, among others. Mary is a popular lecturer and presenter at events like QuiltCon and regularly appears as a guest speaker at guild events and quilt shows around the world. She is currently shopping her original quilt history docuseries, 'America’s Quilt, to major streaming networks. Mary serves on the board of the International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She holds a B.A in Theater from the University of Iowa and an M.F.A. in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She lives in Chicago and London.
