My research was focused on the development of novel pulmonary and brain MRI methods using hyperpolarized xenon gas as a contrast agent. By analyzing the spectral properties xenon dissolved in the blood, we can potentially measure the blood oxygenation throughout the body. This has the potential to help us understand pulmonary diseases that affect gas exchange (such as asthma or broncopulmonary dysplasia) or diseases that affect local oxygenation (such as strokes and tumors).

As a research assistant I supported pediatric MRI research at SickKids. The primary focus of my job was maintenance of the hyperpolarized gas facilities and the production of the contrast agent for our research studies.
