Yorgos Avgeropoulos (Athens, 1971) is a prominent Greek documentary filmmaker and journalist. A former war correspondent and front-line reporter, Avgeropoulos turned to documentary in 2000, founding Exandas Documentary Series that aired on Greek television for 13 consecutive years. He has produced and directed numerous medium and feature length socio-political films focusing on social inequality, poverty, human rights, the environment, minorities and immigration. During the 10-year economic and social crisis in Greece, Avgeropoulos urgently turned his camera to his homeland, filming it from the beginning till the end. His two feature length films "AGORA - From Democracy to the Market" (Greece, Germany, Qatar, 2015) and “Chained - AGORA II" (Greece, Germany 2020), were welcomed by European media as "film-arks, antidote to oblivion", while the Haus des Dokumentarfilm awarded AGORA in 2015 the title of film of the year.
