Yoshiaki Ohta, Ph.D. Email and Phone Number

Dr. Ohta was born in Fukuoka, Japan. After completing the doctoral course in Kyushu Institute of Technology in March 2005, he joined Fujitsu in April 2005. He has been working on research and development of protocols and architectures of 3G/4G/5G mobile communications systems, performance evaluation of TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) over 3G/4G/5G, and support of 4G/5G product development (e.g. cellular phones, base stations, and CU/DU).Dr. Ohta is delegate of 3GPP RAN2 and O-RAN WG5 from October 2006 and from May 2019, respectively. He submitted over 600 and 40 technical proposals to 3GPP RAN2 and O-RAN WG5, respectively. He filed nearly 500 patents including over 50 SEPs (Standard Essential Patents) for 3G/4G/5G certified by patent pool companies. He received Invention Encouragement Awards 2016 and 2018 from Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation. He is also member of 3GPP-RAN Support WG of Mobile Partnership Subcommittee in ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Business), Japan.Dr. Ohta has also engaged in academic activity. He submitted over 20 published academic papers including over 60 referred journal and conference papers (according to Google Scholar) to flagship journals and conferences (IEICE, IFIP, and IEEE). He received 4th IEEE Fukuoka Section Student Award 2004 and best paper award of IEEE CSCN 2017. His academic activity also includes paper reviewer of journals and conferences (IEICE Trans. on Comm., IEEE CSCN, IEEE VTC, IEEE ICC, IEEE letters), session chair of IEEE CSCN 2018, and TPC member of IEEE CSCN. He is a member of IEEE and IEICE.More specifically, Dr. Ohta is now working on:- 4G/5G specification maintenance up to 3GPP Rel-16- 5G technical proposals for 3GPP Rel-17 as the team leader- 5G-Advanced research for 3GPP Rel-18 and onward as the team leader- 6G technology investigation and creation- IP maintenance including office action handling by opposition submission and patent claim amendment- O-RAN WG5 specification development and support mainly for IoT, S-plane, and C-plane- Support of 5G product development (CU/DU) complying with 3GPP and O-RAN specifications- Follow up of ITU-T status including contribution submissions related to O-RAN and 3GPP- Committee member of 3GPP-RAN Support WG of Mobile Partnership Subcommittee in ARIBDr. Ohta has lots of hobbies including football (soccer), 5 aside football, car driving, Go/Shogi (Japanese chess), and marathon, and travelling all over the world. He joined Yokohama Marathon 2017 - 2019 and completed in 5.5h. His target time will be sub 5h.
