Inspired by his experience as an MBA student at Harvard Business School, Hori launched his own business management school in 1992 with just $8000 in capital, beginning with a marketing course conducted at a rented classroom in downtown Tokyo. Since then, Hori has overseen GLOBIS’ growth into the largest business management school in Japan, with 7000 students enrolled every year across five campuses. GLOBIS offers management courses, corporate education, and accredited MBA programs in both Japanese and English. Since opening the first fund in 1996, Hori has since built GLOBIS Capital Partners into one of Japan's leading venture capital firms. Totaling almost 40 billion yen in capital, the firms first three funds have invested in over 100 companies, and seen several IPOs. Fund 4, launched in January 2013, is expected to reach 15 billion yen, and aims to invest in both Japanese innovation capitalizing on high-growth Asian markets and innovative information technology designed for the large, mature markets of Japan.
