Primary technical architect and contributing member of the executive team responsible for influencing business design patterns and frameworks in support the University’s next generation data warehousing solution, known as the Decision Support Initiative (DSI). Within DSI, assumed HR, leadership and planning responsibilities of a 15-member development team charged with delivering University Business Analytics utilizing the agile methodology. Researched and established the foundational components and tools supporting a “Logical Data Warehouse’, created to meet university needs and additionally, implemented a grass-roots data governance solution satisfying university data policy guidelines. De-facto vendor manager, contract negotiator and budgetary steward for the university’s Oracle, Denodo and Tableau enterprise licensing arrangements , including activities such as new product evaluations and purchase recommendations. Mentor to various IU internal and external data teams with respect to best practices, migration and use of data and data technology, including virtualized systems.

As Manager of Enterprise Database Administration, vastly improved database staff job satisfaction and trust through organizational change, clear process definition, and staff accountably. Significantly enriched relationships and rapport with development partners using clear communication, active listening and negotiation. Increased staff productivity amidst headcount reductions. Completed HR activities as required, bringing several difficult personnel situations to successful resolution. Recognized pioneer, early adopter and advocate of database virtualization on VMware. Directed a cross-functional team of technology professionals in the successful virtualization and migration of all enterprise-class database systems, including the University ERP, data warehouse and learning management systems. (Private Cloud.) Successfully worked with customers to plan, prepare and complete various virtualization activities, all with minimal system downtime, leading to substantial, seven figure cost savings for the University. Additionally, planned and directed the daily operational management activities for over 250 host database servers, utilizing a mix of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL relational database technologies supporting over 120,000 faculty, staff and students. Adhering to the tenants of Automation, Standardization and Consolidation, determined strategies and developed tactical plans to improve relational database stability, availability and performance via DevOps principles.

Served as the Information Management Team Lead as part of a $120MM effort to re-engineer and replace the existing Loan Origination Business Process. Supervised a team of 8-12 data professionals (DBA, ETL, Data Modeling, etc.) to complete the installation of over 50 instances of Oracle 10g across environments (development/testing/production), including Oracle 10g RAC. Engineered, proposed and procured necessary hardware to support chosen database solutions. Participated and lead strategy efforts in establishing a corporate data warehousing solution, developing reporting requirements alongside functional and business leaders. Worked directly with Project Management staff to ensure the completion of team development deliverables in a timely fashion. Researched, negotiated and completed the acquisition of Informatica Power center as the Enterprise ETL solution. Completed HR activities (employee assessments, hiring, terminations, etc.) as required.
