I am the Staff Attorney at the Mazzoni Center, a nonprofit healthcare provider that serves the LGBTQIA+ community. As Staff Attorney, I represent low-income clients in discrimination, family law, and name change cases. I work with my clients to find the best solution, whether it is in court, through an agency, or through negotiation. For the clients that we cannot personally represent, I provide advice and referrals to other LGBTQIA+-friendly lawyers or organizations. In addition to direct representation, we also work to advance the rights of LGBTQ people through advocacy, education, and training. Prior to joining the Mazzoni Center, I was the Southeast Regional Voter Protection Director for the PA Dems for the 2022 election. We worked to make sure that every eligible voter can register, vote via their method of choosing, and have that vote count. This includes advocating for voter-friendly laws and election policies and ensuring those laws and policies are adhered to. I am also a freelance writer, editor, and beta reader. In that time, I handled a wide range of litigation, from complex antitrust matters to smaller insurance claims. I later focused on healthcare litigation, primarily medical malpractice defense. I do pro bono work with the Support Center for Child Advocates and Philadelphia VIP. I am also an active member of the Junior League of Philadelphia, a service group that aims to improve the well-being of undernourished and hungry families in the Greater Philadelphia area. In 2015, I was selected as the one associate to represent Cozen O'Connor at the Philadelphia District Attorney's office. As an Assistant District Attorney, I prosecuted misdemeanors in Municipal Court. I located and prepared witnesses, coordinated discovery, argued motions, and conducted the complete trials. I have a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. I am originally from Asheville, North Carolina.
