The European Innovation Council (EIC) has been established under the EU Horizon Europe programme. It has a budget of €10.1 billion to support game changing innovations throughout the lifecycle from early stage research, to proof of concept, technology transfer, and the financing and scale up of start-ups and SMEs.The strategy and implementation of the EIC is steered by the EIC Board, which has independent members appointed from the world of innovation (entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, corporates and others from the innovation ecosystem).The EIC and SME Executive Agency responsible for supporting the EIC Board and its President, and for implementing the EIC’s activities which are set out in an annual EIC Work Programme.

Many highly influential innovators have been involved in the creation and implementation of the EIC, including members of advisory boards, CEOs and researchers of companies and projects receiving EIC support and members of the juries that select projects for funding. To recognise these contributions and empower these innovators to speak about their experiences with the EIC, we have appointed a first set of EIC ambassadors.

MIT has a toolbox of different funding instruments (such as feasibility projects and R&D collaboration projects) to boost innovation among Dutch SMEs. The proposed MIT project should fall into the regional and/or Dutch Topsector roadmaps.

Natural Ventures is focused on accelerating the transformation to a sustainable and economic supply of clean water.

The European Innovation Council (EIC) Advisory Board will provide strategic leadership and oversee implementation of EIC funding. This includes the current pilot stage (€2.2 billion in 2019-20) where equity funding (in combination with grants) will be introduced (the so-called “EIC Accelerator”); and bringing in support for future and emerging technologies (the “EIC Pathfinder”)The Board will also advise on the launch of the full EIC from 2021 (proposed budget €10 billion).
