The New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center (NJ GVRC) is led by the Rutgers Schools of Public Health and Criminal Justice and incorporates faculty from among Rutgers’ more than 30 Schools and Colleges, spanning multiple campuses across the state of NJ. The GVRC mission is to provide high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on gun violence causality and prevention and translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs, therefore creating safe and healthy environments. Throughout the internship, I was working on a project that focused on Native American youth and weapon carrying to schools/safety concerns regarding school, as well as focusing on race. As an intern, I ran statistical analyses, worked with datasets from the YRBSS, conducted literature reviews and looked for any missing gaps in gun violence and youth.
