In 2021, Yousuf left Goldman Sachs Wealth Management to turn his career — and the consumer food system — on its head. He founded Mixtape FoodCo as a response to the staggering waste in our food system and the impact that has on greenhouse gas emissions and food insecurity around the world. Mixtape is a sustainable food company that makes baked goods and snacks powered by upcycled ingredients, currently available at Joe Coffee NY and Dashmart by Doordash. Through upcycling — which redirects nutritious, functional food that would have gone to waste back into the consumer food system — Mixtape is on track to achieve the following this year alone: + Save 305,000 gallons of water+ Avoid over 7 tons of CO2 emissions+ Rescue over 2 tons of nutritionOur goal is to bring people along the journey and with an irreverent brand, nostalgic spin, and market-tested product line, we’re well positioned to introduce upcycling to a mass market without the historical trade-offs. Our products are vegan, climate-friendly, high-quality, and delicious. Prior to founding Mixtape, Yousuf ran financial operations for businesses and advised successful entrepreneurs on investment strategies for over 12 years. He’s been cooking cuisines across his Middle Eastern, Indian, German and US Southern roots for over 20 years. He also spent four years as an Associate Board Member at Hot Bread Kitchen, an NYC non-profit that creates economic opportunity in the food industry for women, immigrants, and people of color through training, job placement, and entrepreneurship.
