Many prediction models have been published to establish the risk of ischemic stroke for patients with atrial fibrillation. In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), these models function poorly. Consequently, these high-risk patients may be misclassified: overprediction of stroke risk will result in a higher incidence of bleedings due to increased anticoagulant prescriptions, while underprediction comes with a higher stroke risk. In this PhD project, we explore which models have been published, appraise their methodological quality, and use the multiple data sources to assess their clinical quality by external validation.
