I am actively engaged in the development, research, and operation of a positive ion source and electrostatic accelerator for Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) heating devices, as well as conducting R&D on negative ion sources and accelerators. Additionally, I am involved in the research and development of source plasmas and ion beam diagnostics instruments.My previous experience at JT-60SA and ITER-Japan has provided me with a strong foundation in NBI-based research and development, enabling me to contribute to a wide range of projects.

NB Heating Technology Group, Naka Fusion InstituteI have developed the negative ion source for JT-60SA and 1 MV accelerator for MeV Test Facility (MTF).The research group I belong to has a long history in accelerator development on negative hydrogen ion multi-beams of up to 1 MeV with the highest current density, 200 A/m2 in the world. The world’s largest neutral beam injection (NBI) system of 500 keV, 22 A has also been designed for the JT-60SA fusion reactor. My research work in the affiliation are as follows.・A practical design approach for ITER-class negative ion sources was developed using the primary electron analysis to improve the negative ion uniformity.・Extending the operation lifetime of the filament-driven ion source was accomplished by developing a system with high sensitivity detection and fast cut-off of the unpredictable abnormal discharge also known as arcing.・Reduction of co-extracted electrons with negative ions by half was achieved by improving the electrode geometry with the systematic investigation.・A filament temperature calculation code which includes the arc current flowing in was developed to realize the reliable and durable design for filament operation.I have been working on an experimental study focusing on the high-energy H－ multi-beam acceleration simulating the negative ion beams for the ITER NBI system since 2022.

At D-Pace, a company manufacturing ion sources for the TRIUMF particle accelerator in Canada, I conducted research and development on external antenna RF driven negative hydrogen ion sources for future upgrades.I investigated the influence of the confinement cusp magnetic field on the source plasma using probe measurements and optical emission spectroscopy.
