I volunteer through an organization called “Penn’s Village”, which is part of the aging in place movement and is dedicated to supporting older adults who wish to remain in their own homes with the help of volunteer-provided services. Penn’s Village is a community-based membership organization in Central Philadelphia. It offers programs that bring older active adults together to socialize, inform, and educate, and encourages connection and engagement with neighbors. If members need additional assistance to help them stay in their own homes as long as they are able, services by volunteers are offered. These include companionship, driving to medical appointments and local shopping, computer assistance, small household repairs, and more.Penn's Villagers know me as their "Apple Digital Wellness Specialist" The challenge for seniors with several digital devices is that they are unaware of how inefficiently their devices are being used, independently and together. I help by shadowing seniors while they are using their Apple devices and explore with them how they can electronically optimize their daily tasks.I re-configure, train, coach, and design a personalized system tailored to each individual's unique personality and needs in order to release the full potential of what they already own.Seniors are afraid to change any preset default that their device was configured with! Usually, those settings were set during the most inconvenient and stressful time, namely, when their device was purchased. and the configuration was done by someone who did not fully understand their needs. My pride and joy are to change those settings to match exactly to their needs.
