Terrance (Yuan) Li is an articling student in Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office.Before joining Gowling WLG, Terrance served as Vice president of Business Development for Toronto Rush, a semi-professional Ultimate Frisbee franchise. He is also a researcher at York University, where he collaborates with students and professionals to commercialize ideas and promote entrepreneurship.Prior to moving to Canada, Terrance practised law in Beijing, China, for nearly a decade. He began his career as in-house counsel at a leading carbon market think tank, where he worked with the United Nations to design China’s first National Registry System for its National Emission Trading Scheme. Throughout his legal career, Terrance specialized in sports and entertainment law, handling media rights deals and licensing agreements (with organizations such as the NBA, Premier League, MLS, MLB and F1), copyright infringement litigation and injunctions (e.g., illegal streaming), sponsorships and endorsements, and sports program production.Terrance is committed to giving back to the community. He serves as a board member for KidSport Canada, where he helps promote children’s social, mental and physical well-being. He also sits on the Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame Committee, contributing to the growth of the city's sports culture.Terrance holds an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School, an MSc in International Political Economy from Renmin University of China, and an LLB from Minzu University of China. He also completed the U.S. Law and Legal English Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.In his spare time, Terrance enjoys playing various sports, particularly basketball and ultimate frisbee. He even represented York University in the Canadian University Ultimate Championships during his time at Osgoode Hall Law School.
