Profile bio

About Sarah Yuen (Gilliat)

I have a number of strings to my bow. I am a Strategic Disaster Response and Crisis Communications Consultant (corporate, institution, military and government) with an Associate Degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Response, gained in Florida. I am a qualified clinical hypnotherapist, specialising in post-combat and first responder PTSD, which has also led me into the field of nutrition and its impact on physical and psychological health, which is why I created the www.TurnBackTime2024.com eating plan. I was an international broadcast and print journalist/editor for more than three decades (until 2020, when I felt most media outlets threw all journalistic principle out of the window) and I remain a writer and novelist. It may all sound a strange mix, but when you have seen so much trauma first hand, you feel a need to do something other than just wield a camera or a pen. You also feel a need to offer something that truly helps those who are suffering the fallout of disasters! I worked all over the world during my journalism career for major global media outlets and organizations. Then, after two years of participating in civilian and military exercise simulations worldwide, both as a trainer and trainee, I was deployed with a British Military Brigade to Afghanistan, as Media/Public Information Consultant for the Commander of British forces in theatre. I was frequently embedded with different units (1 Scots, RM 40 Commando, Scots Guards, 1 Mercian, 1 Lancs, RDG, REME) for missions as combat camera (video and stills), and I spent elongated time with the US Marines (1 MEF) and Afghan forces (3/215 Brigade). I then moved to Kabul where I worked for NATO and ISAF coordinating strategic communications. I am native English and speak French fluently. My PTSD practice is www.thebeatretreat.com and I run an international PTSD therapy portal, www.CatchPTSD.com. I also own CATCH Media, offering crisis media simulation services in Florida for local authorities and institutions. My nutritional hub is www.TurnBackTime2024.com.

Listed skills include Broadcast, Television, Video, Documentaries, and 45 others.

Catch Media Simulation

Florida, United States

Media simulation for crisis exercises is essential for corporations, institutions, charities, governments, militaries and first responders. Simulating a professional media response to decisions and actions taken, during crisis and disaster exercises, adds to the realism of the challenge. Knowing what media outlets might report, given what you decide to do, allows for direct learning in a safe, confidential, environment. It does make crisis simulation exercises harder! It brings in more moving parts to the simulated response operation, which need to be managed and directed to best effect. However, it provides live, on the spot, media training for key personnel, delivered by operators who have been professional journalists for decades, and who can provide crucial advice. The provided cascade training materials will endure for years after the exercise is over. The media are always looking for ANYTHING that might be done wrongly in an operational response, so incorporate that scrutiny into your exercises ahead of any crisis or disaster, to avoid bad outcomes and negative publicity when it actually happens.
