Within a year of joining the Society, I was promoted to Digital Communications Officer to reflect the variety of responsibilities I quickly took on.In addition to what I did as Digital Communications Administrator, I also began to:• Write full news articles and longer research news stories• Work alongside the Head of Communications on media and press queries• Project manage and curate all of the Society's e-campaigns, including the monthly newsletter• Build and manage the online version of Microbiology Today• Work with the Managing Editor in the production and editing of the print version of Microbiology Today• Manage and maintain external relationships with reviewers and suppliers• Manage various databases of stakeholder contacts• Support the build, then manage and maintain the intranet• Further develop the website• Work with the Media Producer on audio and visual storytelling content

I made the jump to join the Microbiology Society, as the not-for-profit sector appealed to me. Here I started in the newly created role of Digital Communications Administrator, where I:• Looked after website content• Managed email campaigns• Managed the Society's social media channels• Supported the digital production of the Society's quarterly magazine, Microbiology Today• Used Adobe Suite programmes to create both print and digital resources• Began researching and condensing difficult subject matters into short, accessible news pieces• Proofread and sub-edited materials produced by other teams• Audited historical print content and digitalised them
