Discovered, guided and executed R&D projects aimed at drug delivery formulation developments for basic research, formulation feasibility studies. Explored the usage of artificial intelligence in lead drug discovery, reverse docking of targets, and ADMET prediction. Setup SOPs for instrumental calibration and maintenance, which was used for membrane protein extraction, purification, and production. Established a budget plan and cost accounting when acting as an administrative manager.

Discovered and guided the development of biomedical additives/intermediates and preclinical formulation and characterization services used in drug encapsulation, delivery, and tracking/imaging. Optimized product design and marketing strategies. The inquiry amount increased ~3X and the sales growth increased ~ 2X on a year-on-year basis. Participated in ELISA-kit market analysis and product analysis.

1. Develop a multi-scale porous skin graft with triggered degradable agonist-loaded micelle coating for the application of inflammation modulation. 2. Synthesize and develop triggered degradable biomaterials composed of homo-polymers or block-co-polymers for 3D printing cell-laden hydrogels and fabricating 3D decellularized extracellular matrix scaffolds. 3. Develop a triggered degradable tissue adhesive for suture-free wound closure. 4. Surface functionalize NIR-II nanoparticles for cancer-cell-targeted photothermal and photodynamic therapy. 5. Develop highly-filled-Ti-particle inks for 3D printing porous and bioactive dental implants at micron scale resolution.6. Develop python-based imaging processing codes for large scale feature extraction, object detection/recognition/classification from immunofluorescence images and histology staining images.

• Developed an on-demand, polymer/polymer-composite based nanocapsule fabrication procedure to largely simplify the existing capsule preparation procedures, increase the loading capacity, achieve triggered-encapsulating/releasing, and control the capsules size (from 30 nm to 500 nm) with narrow size distribution. Designed and synthesized polymers for achieving different amphiphilicity, or high efficient UV-crosslinking ability. Applied the crosslinkable nanocapsules in stimuli-responsive emulsion stabilizations or nanoparticle coatings. Determined the encapsulation efficiency and controlled release of volatile or fluorescence molecules from the polymer capsules by chromatography (GC, HPLC), IR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrums. Determined the mechanisms of template-free nanocapsule formation through electron (cryo/RT-SEM/TEM) and fluorescence microscopy characterizations. Visualized the morphology transition and phase separation of hydrogen-bonded polymer mixtures, and polymer distributions by atom distributions in the nanocomposites through EDS or EELS-TEM. • Predicted the shear viscosity values of the polyelectrolyte complexes from linear region to non-linear region by K-BKZ model. Characterized various rheological material functions of the complexes, including dynamic properties, relaxation modulus, and shear viscosity, using steady torsional, oscillatory shear, step strain, compressive squeeze and capillary flows. • Developed stimuli-responsive surface coating at solid-liquid or liquid –liquid interfaces by hydrogen-bonded polymer complexes. Developed stimuli-responsive emulsifiers by synthetic amphiphilic polymers or edge-specific modified clay nanoparticles with LCST polymer brushes. Investigated the interfacial coating viscosity and thickness by FCS and ellipsometry.

Supervised summer scholar undergraduate students. Designed and excused the researches about the polymer capsule development. Developed the research proposals with Dr. Sukhishvili.

• Synthesized chitosan-derivatives to form nanoparticles with plasmid for plasmid transfection to mammalian stem cells. Developed bone/cartilage tissue regeneration scaffold by polymer-ceramic spiral structured scaffolds and electrospinning nano-fibrous hydrogel. Developed polysaccharide derivatives based hydrogel and collagen gel derived from rat tails for peripheral nerves regeneration. Functionalized polysaccharide derivatives to change hydrophilicity, and modify with UV reactivity so as to achieve hydrogel fabrication efficiency and control cell affinity.

• Synthesized fire and heat resistant polysiloxane polymer resin by ring-opening polymerization in emulsions. • Designed and synthesized pre-drugs of anti-vascular antagonist, increasing yield. Rich experience in Palladium-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling, Copper-catalyzed Click chemistry.
