    • Developed an on-demand, polymer/polymer-composite based nanocapsule fabrication procedure to largely simplify the existing capsule preparation procedures, increase the loading capacity, achieve triggered-encapsulating/releasing, and control the capsules size (from 30 nm to 500 nm) with narrow size distribution. Designed and synthesized polymers for achieving different amphiphilicity, or high efficient UV-crosslinking ability. Applied the crosslinkable nanocapsules in stimuli-responsive emulsion stabilizations or nanoparticle coatings. Determined the encapsulation efficiency and controlled release of volatile or fluorescence molecules from the polymer capsules by chromatography (GC, HPLC), IR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrums. Determined the mechanisms of template-free nanocapsule formation through electron (cryo/RT-SEM/TEM) and fluorescence microscopy characterizations. Visualized the morphology transition and phase separation of hydrogen-bonded polymer mixtures, and polymer distributions by atom distributions in the nanocomposites through EDS or EELS-TEM. • Predicted the shear viscosity values of the polyelectrolyte complexes from linear region to non-linear region by K-BKZ model. Characterized various rheological material functions of the complexes, including dynamic properties, relaxation modulus, and shear viscosity, using steady torsional, oscillatory shear, step strain, compressive squeeze and capillary flows. • Developed stimuli-responsive surface coating at solid-liquid or liquid –liquid interfaces by hydrogen-bonded polymer complexes. Developed stimuli-responsive emulsifiers by synthetic amphiphilic polymers or edge-specific modified clay nanoparticles with LCST polymer brushes. Investigated the interfacial coating viscosity and thickness by FCS and ellipsometry.
