Yoon Suk Uhr is a MS Comp.E | Data Science Intern | Security in ML Algorithm. Colleagues describe them as "I have had the pleasure of mentoring and working with Yoon over the past year as he has served as a data science intern at the Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) at Purdue. The data science team works on a variety of end-to-end analytic projects for customers within RCAC and throughout Purdue. As the data science intern, I tasked Yoon with working on internal analytics efforts surrounding user support requests (tickets) we receive in RCAC.
On this project he has worked on a variety of tasks from fine-tuning a BERT-based text classification model to implementing a clustering model for tracking the rise and fall of types of issues over time and deploying these models using Kubernetes. This work is all the more impressive when considering his background. While already possessing a strong technical background from his coursework in computer engineering, data science and natural language processing were new to him when he started in RCAC. Yoon eagerly jumped right in at the beginning of his internship and has demonstrated again and again his commitment to learning both about machine learning/NLP theory and applied data science/best practices. It has been truly impressive to see how much he has grown since he started.
All of Yoon’s hard work has paid off. Yoon was one of the initial people working on the support request analysis project, and this project has now grown into a full web application which culminated in a peer-reviewed paper which Yoon helped write and present at a recent conference.
While Yoon’s experience is an asset, I believe his willingness to learn is one of his strongest attributes which will serve him well in any job going forward."
