About Yukari Peerless

I am a creative based in Victoria, BC with a passion for bridging the gap between Japanese and Canadian cultures. I'm a writer, interpreter, podcaster, watercolor artist, and Japanese cultural consultant, and has been helping to connect the two cultures since moving to Victoria from Nagasaki, Japan in 1998. As the owner of Lucid Communication (https://www.lucidcommunication.ca/english/), I provide interpreting and consulting services to Japanese and Canadian clients, including local government, the Japanese government, and film and television productions. Past clients include All Nippon Airways, Dove, Post, Philips, Ubisoft and Disney.My written contributions have appeared in magazines and newspapers such as "Japanese Investor," "Seiryu," "Keiko to Manabu," "Magazine ALC," "FYTTE," "Cooyon," "SotoKoto," "Baby Life" in Japan, and "The Guardian" in the UK. In my role as a cultural consultant and interpreter, I have worked with Disney on FX's "Shogun" to ensure a safe and effective set for cast and crew, and I am dedicated to promoting the accurate representation of Japanese culture in the media. I am also committed to creating safe, diverse spaces for communication and cultural exchange. In addition to my work at Lucid Communication, I am the Director of Communications for the [Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society](https://www.vncs.ca/) and the Chair of the Arts, Culture and Education Committee for the [National Association of Japanese Canadians](http://najc.ca/), where I'm also a member of the National Executive Board.In my spare time, I produce and host the Japanese podcast "はみだし系ライフの歩きかた(https://hamidashikei.libsyn.com/)" (roughly translated as "Misfit's Guide to Life"), which focuses on various social issues. Through all of my various endeavors, I am dedicated to bringing people together and promoting understanding and appreciation between cultures.
